Your child will relax into their imagination surrounded by the serene landscapes of the farm and forest. With ample time to relax, explore, reflect and express, this camp will naturally encourage children to improve their creative writing skills. Guided by former editor-in-chief of the Santa Barbara Community College Channels newspaper, Yarrow Hogan (Miss Kelly’s daughter!) is excited to share her passion with youth who are inspired by nature and interested in developing their writing skills.

M-W July 22-24: Good Ol’ Fashioned Farm Camp (ages 4-12)
Miss Emily will guide the children in caring for our farm animals (chickens, bunnies, goats and a big fluffy farm dog!), tending to the beautiful abundant gardens, eating fresh grown and wild-harvested foods, playing in the forest and exploring the creek.

Th-F July 25-26: Archery (geared toward ages 4-12)
End this week with a focus on archery (children enrolled in the creative writing camp this same week will also be able to practice their archery skills)! Guided by archer enthusiast Yarrow Hogan, get ready to hone skills while also spending leisure time on the farm. The children will make their own leather wrist guard as well.

M-W Aug 5-7: Animals, Art & Nature Crafts (geared toward ages 4-12)
These few days will resemble our traditional summer camps at Jean’s Farm. Each day will offer time with the animals, exploring the garden, playing in the forest, doing nature crafts and playing games together. We’ll probably also head down to the creek on the hottest day!

Th-F Aug 8-9: Archery (geared toward ages 4-12)
End this week with a focus on archery! Guided by archer enthusiast Yarrow Hogan, get ready to hone skills while also spending leisure time on the farm. The children will make their own leather wrist guard as well.

M-F Aug 12-16: Herbal Adventure with Jenny Lara (ages 4+)
This week of camp will closely resemble our traditional summer camps at Jean’s Farm. Taught by Miss Kelly and herbalist Jenny Lara, campers will enjoy taking care of the farm animals (goats, chickens and rabbits), harvesting herbs from the forest and gardens and making herbal remedies and delicious healing foods. We’ll hear stories and play games that help teach the healing qualities of the plants that grow in our midst.

All summer camp hours: 9am-noon.

Silvia Santana

Was born and raised in Mexico City, and moved to the United States in 2000. Most recently, she has been teaching Spanish at Cedarwood Waldorf School. “I first discovered wet felting about 9 years ago. Since then I have developed a special interest in working with wool, finding a unique experience in every project.” Silvia also has a passion for cooking and will be sharing her skills cooking authentic Mexican food using fresh foods and herbs from Jean’s Farm.

Yarrow Hogan

My name is Yarrow Hogan and I am a creative writer. I absolutely love anything that has to do with writing creatively: poems, short stories, and songwriting. When I teach students creative writing I learn so much from their unique perspectives and I adore the brilliant minds of children whose imaginations are limitless.

Additionally, I enjoy practicing archery and would love take this opportunity to share my knowledge and spend a week shooting arrows and teaching the mechanics and strategies of maneuvering a bow. I am beyond excited for what these summer camps have in store for us!

Jenny Lara

(They/She) is a Latine & SWANA herbalist & founder of Earthlings Among Us (small batch & farm-to-apothecary). Jenny’s practice is rooted in cultivating kinship (via slow medicine) to place, the land, the stars, and ancestral practices to detangle the human experiences of “dis-ease”, grief and displacement.

Their intention and prayer is that working intimately with plant medicine can build capacity for self trust, support resilience & ancestral connection, deepen relationship to place, heart/body, intuition and the living Earth via deep inquiry, integration and sacred work.

What to bring to camp

We ask that parents apply sunscreen each morning before your child arrives at the farm. Also, plan to send your child in sturdy shoes that can get wet, as well as in lightweight clothing that will dry quickly. We may wade in shallow water during free time in order to keep cool. Please do not send your child in flip flops, crocs or slides as they do not provide enough support for exploring the farm. Please send your child(ren) with a backpack that fits the following items:

  • water bottle

  • sunhat

  • hearty snack

We will have simple snacks available, such as seeds, carrot & celery sticks and/or sliced fruit.

**We offer need-based scholarships to all Jean’s Farm programming. If you or the communities you serve face systemic barriers to fair access to financial resources, please contact us in order to renegotiate fees for service.
