Outdoor Learning Mentorship Series
As more learning environments are prioritizing time outdoors, many parents and teachers are stepping into new territory. Nature education mentor Kelly Brown (co-founder & former director of and preschool teacher at Mother Earth School, former director of the K-12 LivingLAB at Portland Waldorf School, current manager of Nurture by Nature outdoor programming) is offering a video mentorship series for anyone looking for guidance with creating and sustaining a successful nature-based educational experience with respect for health and safety concerns.
24 hour access to videos may be purchased for $10/each. Video length ranges from 25-45 mins, and covers one of the following topics:
Rhythm - how to create a program schedule and daily rhythm that supports the wellbeing of the children in your care
Warmth - strategies and recommended gear & clothing for being outdoors in variable weather conditions
Curriculum - nature-based game, craft, and activity ideas
Safety - site and program considerations that lower the risk of accidents and injury
Purpose - goals of nature education and how outdoor learning supports healthy development
Social Dynamics - working with conflict and meeting the needs of the group with respect for individuals and in mixed-age settings

Storytelling - using curative stories for cultural inclusion, teaching academic content, addressing social concerns and breaking stereotypes
Working with Parents - how to achieve healthy expectations and effective communication while striking a balance between boundaries and transparency.
Justice - a deep dive into the problematic aspects of private education, access to land and the risks of cultural appropriation
Child Development - an exploration of the predictable changes in the consciousness of the growing child as well as some common neurological challenges that affect behavior and overall well being
Inner Life of the Teacher - practices you can develop toward a trusted connection between your students' and your highest self
Business Considerations - logistical discussion about administrative choices and responsibilities when running an outdoor education program
